combined with internation- al travel. “I always wondered why Manitoba didn’t have unique stays,” Jamieson said, considering she was seeing them become quite prominant in other coun- tries around the world. The inspiration for Moon- lit Canopy came from a des- tination in Finland where they offer igloos with glass ceilings to view the north- ern lights. “I just thought what a cool experience to bring to Manitoba, not only just the northern lights but just na- ture in general,” she said. The location was deter- mined because it is near and dear to their hearts. Turner grew up at Pelican lake and their family enjoys the area, even spending their sum- mers there. “When we were looking for a location … first of all, we need to be able to service it and manage it, so it has to be close to home,” but she added it has to be unique enough to attract visitors. After a lot of research and consultation, they proposed the idea to the Pleasant Val- ley Golf Course, and they got the green light. That’s what glamping is all about,” states the descrip- tion on MoonlitCanopy.ca. “Our goal for Moonlit Canopy is to create a space where you can escape, re- charge, reconnect and then go home and take on the world.” Cassandra Jamieson and her husband Turner launched Moonlit Canopy in July 2021, in the midst of the COVID pandemic. The Jamiesons also own McPhail Travel in Brandon. During the pandemic, internation- al travel essentially came to a halt so it gave them the chance to explore this new venture. The global pandem- ic made them realize that there could be similar con- cerns in the future, so it was important for them to cre- ate a second arm of their business to remain sus- tainable — a niche getaway domestically in Manitoba,
