Wild West Show set to return In a spectacle not seen at the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair since 2009, at- tendees will have the opportunity to be dazzled by the Tom Bishop Wild West Show as the production with more than 100 years of history re- turns to Brandon this month. ration from the original Buffalo Bill Wild West Show inspired Thomas W. Bishop to start a show in Canada, after emigrating to the prairies and learning to be a cowboy.

Now in the third generation of per- formers, Thomas W. Bishop’s grand- son Tom continues the show and tra- dition across different venues across Canada. When he’s not performing Bishop has appeared with his horses in television shows such as Murdoch Mysteries, Anne, American Gods and The Handmaid’s Tale. For the Paramount series Mayor of Kingstown, Bishop’s family provided several animals for the show includ- ing a black bear, squirrel, dogs, rac- coons to a robin and a gold finch. You can catch Bishop and his line- up of wild west performers at the Roy- al Manitoba Winter Fair, which starts on March 28.

Tom Bishop and his team of per- formers will be showcased in the Key- stone Centre’s Main Arena during the afternoon and evening show as well as on the Ag Action stage over the course of the six day event featuring a wide display of tricks with horses. In 1914, the original Tom Bishop’s Wild West Show started in Niagara Falls, Ontario when Thomas W. Bish- op performed with his trained horse Saladin, for a sold out crowd raising money for the war efforts of the First World War. Saladin was trained to perform a number of tricks including climbing up into a wagon and pulling the trig- ger of a shotgun aimed squarely at a dummy of the German Kaiser, a pop-

ular feat at the time based on what was happening overseas at war. Tom will be bringing his show to the Royal Mani- toba Winter Fair this year. (Submitted)
