What that does is when you have someone positive, it helps to build their confidence and then when they go further in life, that confidence helps them to make better decisions and have better judgement. Making sure that kids are on the right path is something that’s kind of in- grained in me.” Though Big Brothers Big Sis- ters topped its category this year, that doesn’t mean the charity is resting on its laurels.

“My first little sister is now an adult,” Sararas said. “She’s mar- ried, she’s got a whole house full of kids.” In her years of volunteering with the organization, she’s held multiple positions and been a part of various commit- tees.
