Humphries and staff at the Pro- vincial Ex persuaded Zhao to use a stall at last year’s Fair to paint. When they had a chance to look at the paintings, the idea of featuring the paintings on the posters was born. “It’s very difficult to come up with a fresh poster design every year, be- cause after 100 years of Fair, nearly every example has been chosen,” Humphries. “So, when we saw this original artwork, we thought, bin- go, this looks really good.” Humphries then contacted Zhao to ask his permission to use the art- work, and Zhao agreed. But featuring Zhao’s work on the posters, isn’t just a fresh design idea, Humphries said it’s also about featuring different platforms and showcasing the different ways in which the community comes to- gether to put on the Fair each year.
