“Sometimes anybody with a musical talent, artis- tic talents, whether it’s a thespian talent or whatever, [it] always takes second string to either a sport or an activity and don’t get that platform chance,” he said. “Here we’ve got a captivated audience that comes to our shows, so why not then try and open some minds with those different genres?” “That’s basically what I hope that we carry on doing, and in this case, if it opens up to some unique art, then let’s do that.” Meanwhile, Zhao said that he intends to be back at the Fair this year to capture the event in paint again. He said that events like the Fair offer him a diversity of events to observe and translate into art. At an agricultural fair, horses and livestock are plenti- ful subjects for an artist, though these creatures can be difficult to recreate on canvas. The heavy horses are a popular attraction at the Fair and so is the top-level show jumping competion. “Of course, it is not an easy matter to paint horses when you have absolutely no control over how it will pose for you,” Zhao said. “Nevertheless, it is even more exciting because it is totally unpredictable, forcing me to observe in a sharp manner and paint quickly and accurately.”
