Tashman says homeowners should also ensure they have fulfilled requirements like city permits and possible homeowners association approvals. “Also consider how the landscaping will impact your home’s marketability or resale value if you plan to sell in the future,” she says. “Opting for sustainability options, for example — with landscaping, you want to consider energy-efficient lighting, drought-resistant plants, and smart irrigation which could reduce long-term cost.” Financing options Once you have a good grasp of the expenses and your budget, it’s time to determine the best way to finance the project. Tashman says there are several options available, but you must consider your financial situation, home equity and long-term goals.
